Massage and bodywork were an essential part of the traditional birth attendant’s care throughout the birthing year. This hands-on day brings that care into our work with women today, offering practical skills rooted in warmth, attentiveness and connection.
Guided by Sakli and Matiga, you’ll learn a pregnancy bodywork routine over the course of the day, with time to practise, ask questions and grow in confidence.
Together, we’ll explore:
• How to approach a pregnant woman with sensitivity, ask permission and help her feel comfortable.
• Supportive positioning for comfort and relaxation.
• A range of bodywork movements to soothe and support her changing body.
• How to adapt your touch to the woman’s preferences and responses.
• How to bring the techniques together into a nurturing routine.
The emphasis is on listening through your hands, respecting boundaries and helping a woman feel held and cared for.
Who is this day for?
Doulas, birth partners, couples, antenatal educators, yoga teachers and anyone supporting women during the birthing year. Absolute beginners are welcome, alongside practitioners wishing to deepen their skills.
Your facilitators
Sakli, of Maou Clinique, and Matiga, who also facilitates our End-of-Life Doula training, bring many years of bodywork and caring experience between them.
Both are practitioners Nicola trusts with her own body — and she is very particular about whose hands she places herself in. Their work offers an extraordinarily nurturing and healing experience.
