Learn to care for a woman after birth through nurturing touch, massage and practical bodywork.
Massage and bodywork were an essential, expected part of the traditional birth attendant’s care throughout the birthing year. After birth, this care offered a mother dedicated attention: time to rest, receive and be held as she adjusted to life with her baby.
Guided by Sakli and Matiga, you’ll learn a postpartum bodywork routine over the course of the day, with plenty of time to practise, ask questions and build confidence.
Together, we’ll explore:
• How to approach a mother with sensitivity, ask permission and listen to what she needs.
• Comfortable, supported positioning for receiving bodywork after birth.
• Nurturing touch and massage, with attention to areas such as the back, shoulders, hands and feet.
• How to adapt your approach to her comfort, energy and preferences.
• How to offer care around feeding, resting and the presence of her baby.
• How to bring the techniques together into a gentle, responsive routine.
We’ll centre the mother’s experience, respecting her boundaries and making space for her to receive care without having to look after anyone else.
Who is this day for?
Doulas, birth partners, couples, antenatal educators, yoga teachers and anyone supporting women during the birthing year.
Absolute beginners are welcome, alongside practitioners wishing to deepen their skills. You can attend this day on its own; you do not need to have attended the pregnancy or labour days.
Your facilitators
Sakli, of Maou Clinique, and Matiga, who also facilitates our End-of-Life Doula training, bring many years of bodywork and caring experience between them.
Both are practitioners Nicola trusts with her own body — and she is very particular about whose hands she places herself in. Their work offers an extraordinarily nurturing and healing experience.
A small, hands-on gathering
Held in Sakli’s bodywork space in Forest Hill, London, with a maximum of eight participants, allowing time for individual guidance and practice.
