About this Event
This is an easy (6km, 265m ascent), low fell social walk on footpaths through woodland. We will start from Hodge Close Quarry parking and will walk up through attractive woodland onto the summits of Holme Fell (317m) and Ivy Crag, from where we hope to get views of Coniston Water and Little Langdale. The walk returns via Yew Tree tarn and Hodge Qaurry. We’re excited to welcome you for an afternoon social walk.
Optional: Post walk refreshments from 5pm at the Coniston Mountain Rescue Station, Old Furness Road, Coniston, LA21 8HU / Grid reference - SD 300 974 / What3words - crockery.spilled.crows.
Participants are also invited to join the Lakes Area BMC team for an evening tour of the Coniston MRT, (6pm – 8.30pm)
Meet the Leader
Liz considers herself lucky to have been living near Kendal (with husband Chris) since 2016. A keen geologist, hill walker, climber and BMC chair of the Lake District team.
Liz enjoys sharing days out on the Lakeland fells and co-leading walks for newcomers and experienced walkers alike and is happy to offer lifts to and from walks from the Kendal area.

What to Bring
Although an easy fell walk, the higher ground is often boggy, and the summit of Holme Fell has some slippery rocks. So please ensure you are well-prepared with appropriate gear:
Footwear: Water-resistant hiking boots or shoes with good grip. Ankle support helps if you’re not a regular walker. Walking poles can be useful for steeper and rough ground
Clothing: Dress in layers, including waterproofs, as conditions can vary; bring a hat and gloves for cooler areas. Bring an extra layer of clothing for emergencies
Food and Drink: Bring enough food and water for an afternoon walk; there will be no places to purchase refreshments en route
Who Can Attend
Anyone, under 18's must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Well behaved dogs are welcome but must be always kept under close control, please indicate on your booking if you will be bringing a dog
Health Precautions: If you have any health conditions that might impact your participation, please inform us in advance. Carry any required medications, and let the walk leader know if assistance may be needed in accessing them
