THE PLACES WE MAKE
A Conversation with Loren Wood
How the spaces we create shape the communities we call home.
What does it mean to build something that becomes part of a community's identity?
Before founding Loren Wood Builders, Loren Wood was a high school math teacher. What began as a leap into an entirely different career has grown into one of the region's established design-build companies, known for its thoughtful approach to architecture, craftsmanship, and transforming spaces.
But Loren's story is about more than construction.
From contemporary homes and historic renovations to restaurants, creative spaces, and community gathering places, his company's work has helped shape the way people experience Bloomington and beyond.
Join us for THE PLACES WE MAKE, a special Bloomington Breakfast Club featuring an intimate fireside chat with Loren Wood, hosted by Chelsea Sanders.
Together, we'll explore the intersection of design, entrepreneurship, and community, and what happens when someone sees possibility in a place that others might overlook.
We'll talk about Loren's unexpected journey from teaching to building, the risks of starting something new, and the creative thinking behind some of his company's most memorable projects.
We'll also explore the people behind the work and the culture Loren has cultivated along the way. As his company has grown, so has a team of talented professionals who share a commitment to craftsmanship, collaboration, and doing meaningful work. What does it take to build a company where people genuinely want to work, and how do you protect that culture as the business evolves?
And we'll look at the bigger picture: how design, preservation, and thoughtful development influence the character of a community and the places we call home.
Because the places we make aren't just buildings. They become part of our memories, our neighborhoods, and our everyday lives.
Design. Creativity. People. Community. Legacy.
Whether you're an entrepreneur, artist, designer, builder, business owner, or simply someone who loves Bloomington, this conversation is for you.
Come for the coffee. Leave seeing the places around you a little differently.
ABOUT LOREN WOOD
Loren Wood
Founder, Loren Wood Builders
Loren Wood's path to entrepreneurship began in an unexpected place: the classroom.
After spending years as a high school math teacher, Loren followed his interest in construction and eventually founded Loren Wood Builders in 2010 alongside his wife, Lindsay.
What started as a small operation has grown into an established design-build company serving Bloomington and beyond, bringing together talented builders, designers, craftspeople, and professionals to create distinctive residential and commercial spaces.
Under Loren's leadership, the company has developed a reputation for thoughtful projects, quality craftsmanship, and a strong workplace culture. His approach to building extends beyond the finished spaces to the people who bring them to life and the communities they serve.
His story is one of taking chances, recognizing possibility, bringing talented people together, and creating something that lasts.
