About this Event
This ain’t supervision, and it ain’t networking. That’s not to say those things can’t come out of this space, but I have a hunch you might be tired of containers.
Being a therapist is a distinct job. Discussed by many, experienced by few. Not many people understand what it means to build a career on relating or how thin the line can get between who you are and what you do. Your subjectivity is constantly being negotiated. You run into a client in the grocery store and have to pretend not to know them. You tell a stranger what you do, and they ask, “Are you analyzing me right now?” or dive into a five-minute crash course on their childhood. The internet debates what therapists should and shouldn’t do, without the context of making ethical judgment calls in real time, client by client. Add being a Black woman to that, and the layers get even thicker.
In this space, I invite you to come be a person for a couple of hours. A person who happens to be a therapist. Vent about the work...or not. Share resources...or don't. Brag about your limited-edition Lego set, or sit and observe. Some months we’ll just talk and vibe. Other months there will be something to get curious about, such as...who are you outside of being a therapist?
Black women therapists of all experience levels are welcome, from interns to vets.
