BSN is taking the community from online to IN PERSON in NYC!
Black Sewing Network will absolutely continue creating larger, more structured events, but we also want to make room for something a little different: casual, low-pressure meetups where members of the sewing community can simply connect.
No workshops. No sewing machines. No packed agenda. Just a couple of hours to meet some of the people you see online, catch up with familiar faces, make new connections, take pictures, laugh, and talk about all the sewing and creative things the people in our everyday lives may not fully understand—or necessarily want to hear about for the 47th time. 😂
WHAT'S THE PLAN?
We’ll meet at the Pier 57 Rooftop Park in NYC on Saturday, October 3 at 2 PM. Weather permitting, we’ll hang out on the rooftop, enjoy the views, take some pictures and commune for a couple of hours.
If the weather doesn’t cooperate, no worries! We’ll move the meetup inside Pier 57 to the Living Room, so the meetup is rain or shine.
Pier 57 also gives everyone flexibility to make a day of it. Grab something to eat, explore the area, or head over to the Garment District before or after the meetup. If you’re coming into NYC by train, it’s also a manageable trip from Penn Station.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Whatever makes you feel good!
If you have a BSN shirt, we’d love for you to wear it so we can easily spot each other and grab some great community photos—but it is absolutely not required.
And of course, this is a sewing community, so wearing one of your favorite me-mades is always encouraged!
WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?
So much of our sewing community exists online. We follow each other's makes, watch Lives, comment on posts, exchange advice and celebrate each other's creativity—but there’s something special about actually being in the same space.
We want to create more opportunities for those online connections to become real-life community.
And listen, we KNOW a lot of creatives are introverts. 😂 That's another reason we're keeping this easy: two hours of peopling. No pressure to stay all day, no formal networking and nothing you need to prepare.
Just show up, say hey, and spend a little time with people who get it.
Come alone or bring a sewing friend. Whether you've been part of BSN for years or you're just discovering the community, we'd love to see you in NYC.
