Join us for a talk on Black Revolutionary War sites by WeGOJA Executive Director Dawn Dawson-House, which will be held in the Barrett Room at the Spartanburg County Public Libraries Headquarters Branch. The first 50 attendees will receive a copy of The Green Book of South Carolina from Hub City Press.
About the Speaker
Dawn Dawson-House is Executive Director of the WeGOJA Foundation, a statewide non-profit that advocates for the preservation and promotion of African American history in South Carolina.
With a priority toward operational excellence and transparency, Dawson-House directs grant-funded projects that help protect culture and history throughout the state. The most recent, visible output of the WeGOJA Foundation has been:
- The South Carolina Preservation Toolkit, which provides data on grants, preservation activity, preservation professionals, and other tools that help communities and property owners meet their preservation goals;
- The Rosenwald Schools State Historic Trail Study, which outlined a process that could help add up to six historic African American schools to the State Park Service’s inventory;
- Oral histories at Taveau Church in Cordesville, and
- The Confluence, an arts-based program that immerses teachers and students in African American history through art.
WeGOJA produced the Green Book of South Carolin online and was fortunate to work with Hub City Press on producing a popular print version.

Features a foreword by Dr. Darlene Clark Hine, Distinguished Professor Emerita at Michigan State University where she served as the John A. Hannah Distinguished Professor of History. The South Carolina Green Book is a collaborative release by Hub City Press, the WeGOJA Foundation, and the International African American Museum. Sponsored by the City of Spartanburg.
