Black Liberation & the Global Reparations Movement: Film Screening & Discussion
About this Event

On 25 March 2026, the United Nations declared that the chattel enslavement of African people was the gravest crime against humanity, and that its legacy of continues today in the form of structural racism.

But what does this all mean?

Join UN Fellow for People of African Descent, Kwesi Ochosi, for this free film screening of Durban 400 and Q&A discussion that explores Black Liberation and Pan-Afrikan Empowerment.

Durban 400 is a documentary about a group of grassroots activists of the same name who, in the fall of 2001, attended the United Nations World Conference Against Racism, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance’s. Their goal was to address the issue of reparations for the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade, and colonialism as crimes against humanity. The film follows the group as they develop lobbying strategies, educate their members about political issues related to racism and colonialism, stage demonstrations, and march with South African labour groups in a show of solidarity against globalism, racism, and landlessness.

After the screening, Kwesi will draw on his experience as a Community Organiser, Historian, and Reparations Advocate to detail the growth of the Global Reparations Movement. We will assess the collective impact of grassroots activists from around the world on international human rights law. We will also consider the vital lessons from the past that we must learn as a community before we can repair ourselves as a people. This promises to be an informative and empowering experience for activists, scholars, students, parents, and those interested in reparatory justice for African Heritage people.

This event is not to be missed!
