About this Event
Join a SKSP Ranger to experience the beauty of the Piedmont landscape while working off those holiday calories. This moderate 2.2-mile loop combines the Piedmont Overlook and Gap Run Trails and takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours to complete, but will involve educational stops and breaks along the way.
Hikers will meet at the Carriage Barn in the Historic Area next to the main parking lot, before climbing nearly 500 feet in elevation as they traverse wooded hillsides, descend through an active cattle pasture, and navigate natural trail features such as rocks, roots, and uneven terrain. The effort is rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the Crooked Run Valley, the Blue Ridge Mountains, and historic landmarks including Mount Bleak House.
Pre-registration is encouraged but the program is free and open to all. Participants should wear sturdy footwear, bring water, and be prepared for varying trail conditions. Park admission fees apply ($10 per car). Children and leashed dogs are welcome, but please strongly consider the timeframe and fitness level required for this adventure.
This hike is ideal for visitors and their families who are looking to enjoy fresh air, scenic vistas, and a guided outdoor adventure in the foothills of the Blue Ridge.
