Strengthening the CYP System Across the Black Country: Collective Action
Connecting people, sharing resources and creating lasting change with early years, children and young people at the heart.
What could we achieve if we worked together differently across the for the benefits of Early Years, Children and Young People (EYCYP) in the Black Country?
Across our four Places, there is a wealth of experience, commitment, community knowledge and passion for improving the lives of early years, children and young people (EYCYP). Yet too often, good work happens in isolation, opportunities are missed, resources are fragmented and the voices of early years, children and young people do not have the influence they deserve.
This open convening is an opportunity to bring people together to explore how we can begin to change that.
Rather than another meeting or a space for discussion alone, we want to create an environment where connection can flourish, ideas can be challenged, learning can be shared and collective action can begin. A space for professionals, practitioners, partners and others who care about the future of early years, children and young people to connect across organisational and geographical boundaries.
Four principles to guide our work
Advocacy - one stronger, collective voice
How can we work together to influence decisions, challenge barriers and champion the needs and aspirations of early years, children and young people?
We want to explore how shared knowledge and experience can help us shape a more connected, responsive system.
Access to investment - making our collective resources go further
Investment is about more than funding alone. It includes our time, skills, relationships, spaces, knowledge and opportunities.
How can we share what we have, unlock new possibilities and direct resources towards what early years, children, young people and communities genuinely need?
Agency - meaningful power and influence
Early years, Children and Young People must be more than consulted; they should help shape the decisions, services and opportunities that affect their lives. We want to explore how we can strengthen their voices, leadership and influence, while ensuring they can see what changes as a result of their real involvement.
Authentic allyship - building trust and acting together
Real collaboration requires more than being in the same room. It means listening deeply, sharing knowledge generously, championing one another and being willing to challenge established ways of working. It means recognising the strengths already within our communities and working with early years, children, young people and partners, rather than making decisions for them and about them.
What will we do together?
This will be an open, collaborative space to:
- Build meaningful connections across the four Black Country Places.
- We will build collective strength
- Share experiences, learning, opportunities and challenges.
- Explore what is working, what isn't and what we could do differently.
- We will listen
- Identify opportunities for joint action, shared resources and stronger partnerships.
- Consider how early years, children and young people can shape this work in ways that are meaningful to them.
- Capture our collective learning and identify practical next steps for shared growth.
You do not need to arrive with all the answers. Your experience, perspective, questions and willingness to work differently are crucial valuable contributions.
A journey, not a quick fix
We recognise that meaningful system change takes time. This is a marathon, not a sprint. Lasting change grows through trust, consistent trusting relationships, shared learning and a commitment to keep moving forward together.
Our aim is to build a connected community across the Black Country that learns together, supports one another and turns shared ambition into practical improvements in the lives of children and young people.
Who should attend?
We welcome professionals, practitioners, community organisations, partners and anyone with a genuine interest in strengthening the system for early years, children and young people across the Black Country.
Above all, we welcome people who are curious, open to new relationships and willing to consider what they can contribute to collective change.
Come ready to connect, listen, share and explore what we can achieve together.
The change we want to see will not come from one organisation or individual. It begins when we choose to work differently - together, with early years, children and young people at the heart.
