RAPID BIODIVERSITY SURVEY
This survey will provide a snapshot of the wildlife currently using the site and produce practical, site-specific recommendations to enhance and protect its biodiversity.
Survey Overview:
Across the day, we will use a combination of ecological methods to record species from multiple microhabitats.
Techniques will include:
• Bioacoustic monitoring to detect bats and nocturnal birds, with a focus on identifying the presence of tawny owl.
• Pitfall trapping to assess ground-dwelling invertebrates such as beetles, spiders, and springtails.
• Sweep netting to sample insects from herbaceous vegetation.
• Soil sieving to collect soil invertebrates.
Community volunteers will have the opportunity to take part in hands-on survey activities,
learn basic wildlife identification skills, and better understand the ecological value of their park.
