Come join Great Old Broads for Wilderness just outside Big Bend National Park as we jump into the fray and raise our voices in protest of the pointless destruction occurring in the Big Bend border region.We’ll join with the existing coalitions that are working tirelessly to protect this treasured landscape and have garnered national media attention to this issue – Center for Biological Diversity, CNN, The New York Times
We will visit with local leaders of the resistance. As part of the Big Bend BioBlitz, organized by the Texas Society for Ecological Restoration (TXSER), we’ll get out on the ground to add our observations of the unique plants, animals and insects of the border region of Big Bend National Park. And we’ll join with locals and others Saturday morning for a protest rally.
We envision photo ops of a bevy of Broads carrying umbrellas, aka bumbershoots, that display messaging. Instant shade and a media worthy photo opportunity at the same time!
Our camp will be at the Rancho Topanga Campsites. They have tables, flush toilets, hot/cold showers, water, and power at the bathhouses. Tents and small teardrop/pop-up campers are fine. Big RVs are not. Come with a sense of adventure, flexibility, your own shade, camping gear, food for yourself and to share.
