Learn to connect scenes, explore group games, heighten recurring ideas, and build a complete long-form improv show with your ensemble.
About this Event

You've learned how to build scenes. Now it's time to build something bigger.

Jersey Creative Lab's Level 3 workshop is designed for improvisers who have completed at least 30 hours of improv training and are ready to move beyond individual scenes into long-form improv.

You'll learn how to build on ideas introduced in earlier scenes through second and third beats, explore recurring themes, and heighten them throughout a performance. You'll also continue refining how and when to edit scenes, learn additional forms of support work (tag-outs, split screens, cut-tos, etc.), and develop group games that bring the whole ensemble together.

The workshop ends with a graduation show where you'll perform The Harold, one of the most widely taught long-form improv structures.

About the Instructor

This workshop is led by Nick Carrillo, an actor and improv comedy instructor who has been teaching and performing improv, sketch, and theater throughout New York City for several years.

Nick has trained, performed, and taught with UCB, The PIT, and The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute, and was an original cast member of the Off-Broadway hit Puffs; Or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic.

In addition to his stage work, Nick has appeared in commercials and has been featured on NBC, VH1, Comedy Central, and truTV. He also works with Marvel, hosting digital video content and appearing on The Official Marvel Podcast.

As an instructor, Nick focuses on creating a supportive environment where students can take risks, challenge themselves, and continue developing their skills as improvisers.

Looking Ahead

For students interested in continuing to grow as performers, Jersey Creative Lab is developing additional opportunities for advanced ensemble training and performance, including a pathway toward our future house team.

Current students will be among the first to hear about these opportunities.

Policies & Notes

Enrollment is limited and advance registration is required.

If minimum enrollment is not met, the workshop may be canceled or rescheduled, and all enrolled students will have the option of receiving a full refund.

Refunds are available up to 30 days before the first session, minus a $25 administrative fee. After that, refunds are not available. Registrations may be transferred to another person by emailing [email protected].

Because this workshop builds toward a live ensemble performance, students must attend at least 5 of the 7 classes to participate in the grad show. Students are also strongly encouraged to attend at least 2 of the final 3 classes, when grad show preparation will become a larger focus.

If a student misses more than 20 minutes of active class time, that session will count as an absence.

We may take occasional photos during class, and the graduation show will be recorded. Photos and/or video clips may be used for Jersey Creative Lab promotional purposes.

For registration questions, attendance concerns, or questions about whether this workshop is right for you, please email [email protected].
