What does returning to civilian life mean when your country is still fighting for its survival? For Ukrainian veterans, that transition involves work, family, health, identity, and finding a place in communities that may struggle to understand their experiences.
Senate Square Society welcomes Jonathan Röders, Co-Founder and Director of Projects & Programs at the Corioli Institute, for a discussion of veteran reintegration in Ukraine. Through research, veteran-led workshops, and collaboration with government and civil society, Corioli helps shape policies and programs that improve access to employment, mental health care, family support, and participation in community life. Drawing on fieldwork and conversations with veterans, Röders will explore the challenges they face and the gaps between policy and everyday experience.
The discussion will also consider lessons from the United States and other countries, the role of partnerships, and which approaches can meaningfully translate to Ukraine’s wartime reality. Throughout, the focus remains on veterans’ own perspectives — and their role in shaping Ukraine’s recovery.
