A Conducted Quiet Day at St Mary’s Convent

Creation is intricate and extravagant! Creation is intimate and expansive! Creation is playful!
This quiet day will be in three parts, reflecting the ‘Trinity’ of Beholding:
Beholding God;
God Beholding;
Mutual Beholding.
The approach will be ‘scientifically playful’, an opportunity to use our senses to explore creation, but not at a superficial level: we will be considering how our senses work and how this understanding affects how we behold God. It will be an intimate ‘treasure-hunt’ with God, expecting God to surprise us and be playful with us. This deeper dive will be quiet and contemplative, and be a time of gentle refreshment and affirmation.
Please bring a waterproof coat and shoes in case it rains, as we will spend time outside in the garden, the orchard, the water garden and the labyrinth. You are also invited to bring a photo of someone you love (it could be an animal) – the key thing is that the eyes are clear (it could be on your phone). In addition, a magnifying glass and hand mirror, if you have them, but I will bring some with me.

Retreatants are asked to arrive at 9.30am on Saturday 26th September. Departures by 5.00pm.
£55 per person, includes a two course lunch and all refreshments.

About Dr Maria Dent
Maria is an Oblate of the Community of St. Mary the Virgin, Wantage, currently serving on the Oblate Council, and she worships at St. Peter’s Church, Belper, Derbyshire. Maria is now retired, having worked as a scientist her whole life, in microbiology, cancer research, as a science teacher and consultant, and finally as a senior lecturer in science and teacher education. She sings, learns German, practices Tai Chi and is a permaculture gardener.
