About this Event
This visit with the curatorial team members and exhibitors will take us behind the scenes to the motivations and journey of realizing the 2025 edition of the Hong Kong exhibition in Venice. Presented in the form of an archive, the exhibition brings together a selection of overlooked public architectures of Hong Kong, largely built between the post-war era to the millenium. From the co-op housing to the municipal services buildings, from the composite buildings to the curb-scale infrastructures, the meticulously researched types are not heritagized as valuable. Yet, they, tectonically, programmatically and climatically, manifest the civic aspirations of the era. Many are also designed by the first generation architects from the city, including the likes of Chung Wah Nan, Wong and Ouyang, Dennis Lau and P&T, as well as from the Public Works Department. Complementing the archival presentation is a large-scale tied-joint íinstallation, which had originally been conceived for the della Tana courtyard of Venice, adapted to the roving exhibition to Shanghai, and recreated for Hong Kong. Garnering international accolade for the wisdom that many of these structures embodied, and in a context where quiet ongoing disappearances continue, this exhibition hopes to bring local recognition to the values of many of these structures.
