About this Event
Join friends and neighbours for a relaxed and creative beginner-friendly watercolour workshop, inspired by Théophile-Alexandre Steinlen’s beautiful and expressive L’Hiver: Chat sur un Coussin (Winter: Cat on a Cushion), 1909.
Working step by step, you’ll create your own watercolour interpretation of Steinlen’s characterful cat while learning a range of useful watercolour techniques.
No previous painting experience is needed. All materials are provided.
What You’ll Learn
During this two-hour workshop, you’ll explore:
• Wet-on-wet washes for soft, fluid colour
• Layering and glazing to build richness and depth
• Dry-brush techniques to suggest fur and texture
• Loose, expressive brushwork
• Colour mixing and warm/cool colour relationships
• Creating depth with tone and tonal contrast
Rather than trying to paint every individual hair or detail, you’ll learn how to simplify the cat into shapes, washes and expressive marks, helping you achieve a loose and painterly result.
