about the class:
we are all about fun and casual. when you arrive you will first eat lunch and pick from an array of beverages. at the beginning of class only nonalcoholic beverages are offered because of the use of the exacto knives. but once your outline is cut, the wine or beer can be poured.
you will pick your pattern from an array of bob's burgers scenes premade and designed especially for kinusaiga. you must 100% pick from these patterns. you may bring your own 6x6 line drawing if you'd like but it should be simple. kinusaiga works best with simplicity. we will then etch the chosen patterns and begin the process of tucking the fabric into the foam. if you do not finish, you can take your piece home with all the fabric you need to finish or you can come back at your convenience. the choice is yours.
about kinusaiga:
kinusaiga is a japanese fabric craft that uses concepts of mosaics and quilting. at its core, kinusaiga is a fabric collage where an image is created by cutting grooves into a foam base and tucking the edges of fabric scraps into the slits.
kinusaiga depends entirely on the concept of structural lines. every single edge of a fabric piece must be tucked into a groove, meaning the final artwork is physically defined by a network of dark, deep recessed seams. this mimics the lead caming in stained glass windows or the heavy outlines found in traditional ukiyo-e (woodblock prints. the lines act as borders that separate colors and textures while simultaneously holding the entire composition together.
