Adult Beginner Silks Classes (New and Continuing Students)Mondays, 5 - 6:30pm

Fee: $240
Build strength, confidence, and coordination in this beginner aerial silks course. You'll learn foundational skills such as climbs, wraps, foot locks and beginner sequences while building strength, mobility, and body awareness in a supportive, non-intimidating environment. Classes are designed for complete beginners, with options to modify or challenge yourself as you go. No previous experience required.

About the instructor
Kira Schaffer is an instructor, performer and choreographer, specializing in aerial dance, site specific work and dance with props. Kira has performed professionally for over 20 years, coordinating shows both as a solo artist and with her troupe, Firebelly Performance Society. She has created work for festivals, corporate events, film and theatre. Highlights of her career include coordinating work for Olympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies in Italy, Greece and Vancouver. Kira has also worked on many community engaged projects such as the Rainforest Circus (Deer Crossing the Art Farm) a performance, incorporating community members taking place in multiple forests throughout B.C.; and the Northern Lights Circus, a symposium for social activists.
Kira loves to share her passion for movement with others and has taught classes for adults, youth, and children, from beginners to experienced dancers and circus performers as well as students with mixed physical and mental abilities.. She recently opened “Dreaming Rabbit Studio” on Salt Spring Island to focus more on the teaching aspect of her career and is excited to be offering a variety of classes, workshops and residency opportunities out of this space. Kira's classes offer a supportive environment for learning where students are encouraged to play, explore and express, while being guided in good physical technique and body alignment.
