About this Event

2026 has been defined by major global crises and compounding humanitarian emergencies. These crises have deepened amid sweeping cuts to humanitarian aid, while deadly epidemic outbreaks and renewed waves of conflict have further escalated needs. Meanwhile, an ongoing genocide continues to devastate a population and erode fundamental norms of civilian protection and humanitarian assistance, exposing the grave consequences of persistent global inaction.

Despite these immense challenges, MSF teams have continued to provide care on the frontlines. Join Médecins Sans Frontières Ireland for an in-person panel discussion with frontline medical and emergency staff returning from three of the world’s most pressing humanitarian crises:

  • Gaza: Following three years of genocidal war, approximately 90% of the population has been displaced; more than 70,000 lives have been lost, and more than 1,700 healthcare workers have been killed, including 15 MSF colleagues. At least 446 Palestinian healthcare workers have been unlawfully detained by Israeli forces. The reality stays unchanged: No one is safe in Gaza.
  • Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC): Already strained by overlapping crises and limited healthcare infrastructure, DRC is facing the worst Ebola outbreak in its history. As of September 2026, more than 8,000 people have been confirmed to have contracted Ebola, while at least 3,900 have died from the disease.
  • Yemen: MSF has been operating in Mocha and surrounding areas since 2018, providing vital paediatric and maternal care amidst ongoing conflict. The Mocha General Hospital is one of the few health facilities still providing essential medical care to women and children following the recent escalation in the conflict, continuously working through the challenges to provide lifesaving maternal care.

When: November 11, 2026.

Where: Corrigan Hall, Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (RCPI) Frederick House, 19 South Frederick Street, Dublin 2, D02 X266.

Speakers:

  • Dr Sadhbh Lee, Obstetrician-gynaecologist and Sexual & Reproductive Health (SRH), Yemen
  • Dr. Mohammed Abu Mughessib, former Deputy Medical Coordinator for MSF in Gaza.
  • Jacob Burns, former Project Coordinator, Beni, North Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo

Discussion moderated by Richard Chambers.

Doors at 6:30 p.m. and the event will start at 7.15 pm sharp. Please note this is an in-person event only and will not be streamed online. Seating availability subject to arrival time.
