How do you tell real batik from printed fabric?

Join us for a fun, hands-on introduction to the different ways of making batik: tulis and cap. (Overheard: But what about printed fabric with batik motifs? Is that authentic batik?)

You’ll learn simple clues to look for — from the way the wax is applied to the way the motif appears on the cloth — and discover how to tell how a piece was actually made.

Bring along your own batik and put your new detective skills to the test. Is it tulis, cap or print? By the end of the session, you’ll have a better eye for what you’re looking at — and hopefully never look at batik quite the same way again.
