Celebrate Bat Week with Southern Wisconsin Bird Alliance, the UW Bat Brigade, and Dane County Parks in this Bat Box Construction Class! Registration is $20/person: https://swibirds.org/all-events/2026/10/24/bat-box-construction-classBats are an incredibly important group of species and have faced serious declines due to habitat loss, reduced food availability, and white-nose syndrome. But you can help change that! At this Bat Box Construction Class, you will:
1. learn about bat life history and biology from UW-Madison graduate student and UW Bat Brigade member Makeela Magomolla,
2. then watch a demonstration on how to build a maternity bat box (the type of box most helpful for bat conservation) by Bat Ambassador John Davies, and
3. take home construction plans and knowledge to support bats near you.
Attendees will not build their own workshop during this event, but watch how the instructor does it. You will be able to watch, ask questions, get insider’s tips, and be inspired. The two boxes created during the event will be donated to Southern Wisconsin Bird Alliance to be installed at Faville Grove Sanctuary, and Dane County Parks to be installed at Fish Camp County Park.
Individuals who would like to build a bat box after this event are encouraged to donate the boxes to Southern Wisconsin Bird Alliance or Dane County Parks!
