Workshop Information
Discover the art of basket weaving with internationally acclaimed Canadian plant fibre artist Ralph Simpson. Known for his innovative approach to weaving and sculpting with natural materials, Ralph brings a wealth of knowledge and creativity to this hands-on workshop.
During this one-day experience, participants will create their own unique basket using locally foraged plant fibres while exploring the traditional techniques and creative possibilities of working with natural materials.
Beyond weaving, participants will learn how to identify, sustainably harvest, process, store, and prepare plant fibres for future projects. Ralph will share his expertise in environmentally responsible harvesting practices, highlighting the importance of working in harmony with nature.
No previous weaving experience is required! This workshop is designed for beginners, with opportunities for more experienced participants to explore advanced weaving techniques and further develop their skills.
Join us for a creative and engaging day that celebrates craftsmanship, sustainability, and our connection to the natural world. You'll leave with a handmade basket, new skills, and a deeper appreciation for the plants growing around us.
Part of the proceeds from this workshop will support the Conservation Council of New Brunswick's work to protect and celebrate the natural environment through education, community engagement, and environmental stewardship.
