Even Bach had to take a break from composing once in a while!During the months of June and July 1725, it seemed that Bach did not compose any cantatas for the Leipzig churches; instead, he performed three cantatas by his good friend Georg Philipp Telemann, including Gelobet sei der Herr, der Gott Israel ("Praised be the Lord God of Israel," TWV 1:596) on June 24.
In the same vein of adapting existing material, either Bach or his immediate successor as Thomaskantor, Gottlob Harrer, created a three-movement motet, Jauchzet dem Herrn alle Welt ("Sing to the Lord, all ye lands," BWV Anh. 160) based on music from both Bach and Telemann. Enjoy this rarely heard, but beautiful pastiche by these two pillars of the German Baroque!
We ask for a donation at each session of $20 per person to cover a stipend for the music director and other expenses. But any amount is welcome, and no one is turned away.
