Aya Despacho Ceremony: A Sacred Offering of Remembrance:The Aya Despacho, also known as Aya Hawarikuy, is a traditional Indigenous ceremony from the Andean mountain region of Peru. This sacred offering honors loved ones who have died and shares energy to support their transition. The ceremony creates space to remember, to heal, and to connect with those who have passed. We end up with a beautiful bundle that will be offered in sacred fire, releasing our prayers to become manifest.
Purpose and meaning:
Balance (ayni) – restoring harmony
Protection – removing negative energy
Blessings – love, prosperity, and connection
Gratitude – thanking the Spirits for gifts shared
How it’s done:
A mandala is made with elements like sugar, seeds, beans, flowers, and other natural items.
Each participant breathes their prayers into a natural object, which is placed in the bundle.
The bundle is then burned (to release prayers quickly to the spirit world) or buried (to release them slowly to the Earth) or drowned (to release them at their own pace through the waters of the Earth)
What to Bring:
Bring a photo of your deceased loved one to include in the ceremony.
If you do not have a photo, or prefer not to bring one, paper will be available so you can write their name instead.
Please bring a copy of the photo or one you are willing to release, as photos included in the prayer bundle will not be returned.
Please be sure there are no living beings in the photos.
This event is FREE to Adults of all ages. We do encourage free will donations to Unity Center for allowing us to use their beautiful space.
