Avalanche Aware: Take the First Step
A Rab Denver Community Night
Wednesday, December 2, 2026
Doors open at 6:00 PM | Event begins at 6:30 PM
Rab Denver | 1551 Platte Street, Denver, CO
Winter is here, and whether you're skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, or snowmobiling, spending time in the mountains comes with risks worth understanding.
Join us at Rab Denver for an evening introducing Avalanche Aware, a free, accessible online resource designed to help more people recognize avalanche hazards, understand the basics of avalanche safety, and make more informed decisions in the mountains.
Developed through a partnership between AIARE, the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC), and the Northwest Avalanche Center (NWAC), Avalanche Aware is designed to give everyone an approachable starting point for avalanche education.
We'll explore:
- Why avalanche awareness matters, regardless of your winter sport.
- How to recognize avalanche terrain and understand potential hazards.
- Foundational knowledge that can help you make more informed decisions.
- Where to start with avalanche education and how to continue building your skills.
You don't need to be an experienced backcountry traveler to benefit. Whether you're just getting started or have years of mountain experience, there's always more to learn.
Your best piece of gear is what you carry between your ears.
Come connect with your local winter community, ask questions, and take the first step toward a more informed winter season.
Avalanche Aware is free and available online:
