A free seminar on safeguarding, autonomy, care reform and rights for disabled and older people.Autonomy, Care & Safeguarding
What does it take to have real choice and control over your own life?
Autonomy is more than making decisions. It is about having the freedom, support and opportunity to live according to your own will and preferences.
This event will explore what autonomy means in practice for disabled people, older people and others who rely on care and support.
It will ask whether our services, laws and safeguarding systems genuinely enable people to exercise choice and control — or whether structural barriers, limited options and risk-averse systems can still restrict autonomy.
Through lived experience, policy discussion and European perspectives, we will examine Personal Assistance, nursing-home care, supported decision-making and the wider question of what needs to change if autonomy is to become a reality rather than simply a principle
