Seed Theatre is casting Larissa FastHorse’s "The Thanksgiving Play" - a biting, hilarious satire about good intentions, performative allyship, and what happens when four well-meaning theatre artists attempt to create the most culturally sensitive Thanksgiving pageant for children imaginable. Synopsis:
When a group of educators and theatre-makers set out to devise an elementary school Thanksgiving play that celebrates Native American Heritage Month without offending anyone, they quickly discover that their own assumptions, egos, and desperate attempts to “get it right” may be the biggest problem in the room.
Fast, uncomfortable, absurd, and incredibly funny, The Thanksgiving Play turns the mirror on progressive spaces and asks what happens when the desire to be inclusive becomes more about the people performing inclusion than the people they intended to include.
🎭 SEEKING FOUR ACTORS
All four characters are written as white (passing) and cisgender (passing). We welcome people of all genders and colors to audition, but this cast will need to pass believably as white and cisgender.
This is intentional and central to the satire of the play
LOGAN — Seeking woman in 20s-40s
(White Passing, Cisgender or Femme presenting - should especially be your most KAREN passing woman ever)
A high school drama teacher and director of the Thanksgiving play. Earnest, anxious, politically conscious, and absolutely determined to create something meaningful and appropriate.
JAXTON — Seeking man in 20s-40s
(White passing, cisgender or masc presenting)
An actor and yoga practitioner who is deeply committed to being socially conscious—and equally committed to making sure everyone knows it.
ALICIA — Seeking woman in 20s-40s
(Racially Ambiguous but white passing, femme passing)
A professional actor hired for the project. Confident, practical, and considerably less interested in intellectualizing everything than the people around her.
CADEN — Seeking man in 20s-40s
(White passing, Masc passing)
An elementary school history teacher and aspiring playwright who arrives armed with research, historical facts, and a very, very long script.
Actors should be comfortable with satire, physical comedy, uncomfortable humor, ensemble work, and material addressing race, representation, privilege, and cultural appropriation.

Seed Theatre approaches The Thanksgiving Play as both an exceptionally funny comedy and an opportunity to examine who gets to tell stories, whose voices are centered, and the ways even well-intentioned artists can reproduce the very problems they are trying to solve.
