Presenters:
Scott McLeod, McLeod (Managing Director)
Scott McLeod is Managing Director of McLeod a New Zealand owned crane, Hiab, transport and logistics business based in Tauranga. Scott's career has spanned crane operation, software development, dispatch, branch management, health and safety, and senior leadership. Before moving back into the crane industry full-time, he worked in information technology and software development, including several years as a programmer. He became Managing Director of McLeod in 2012. This combination of technical and operational experience shapes Scott's practical approach to technology and artificial intelligence. His focus is on how AI can support real-world operations, improve planning and communication, strengthen safety and competency systems, and help people make better decisions.
Scott has held a number of industry governance roles with the Crane Association of New Zealand, including Councillor, Vice President, President and Immediate Past President. He was also a Director of Crane Training New Zealand Ltd and served as Chairman from 2015 to 2017. In 2021, he was made a Life Member of the Crane Association of New Zealand.
During Scott's time in leadership, McLeod has also received several national health and safety awards recognising its approach to safety leadership and practical safety improvement. Scott brings the perspective of someone who has operated cranes, dispatched them, written software, managed safety systems and led a crane business – and is now applying AI to the practical challenges facing the industry.
