About this Event
Join Asé Theatre in celebrating the work of the Fall 2026 Solo Performances Cohort. Following an intensive 10 week series, this group of artists has utilized Ritual Poetic Drama Within the African Continuum (RPDWAC) to build, write, and refine their own solo shows.
Ritual Poetic Drama Within the African Continuum (RPDWAC) is a radical, de-centering actor training and performance methodology pioneered by world-renowned scholar-activist, director, and playwright Dr. Tawnya Pettiford-Wates ("Dr. T").
Unlike Eurocentric acting methods that demand psychological representation or imitation, RPDWAC approaches theater as a living, cyclic ritual. By utilizing an altered state of consciousness—achieved through intentional breath-work, deep inward focus, and facilitated poetic imagery journeys, the artist bypasses socialized defense mechanisms. The goal is not "performance" in the commercial sense, but revelation.
This culmination of the solo performance journey is a massive full-circle moment for the Seattle theater community, with the Solo Fest performed live at The Erickson Theater on Capitol Hill.
Before it was the Erickson, this very space was the Little Theatre off Broadway (LTOB)—the literal birthplace where Dr. T first created and manifested the principles of Ritual Poetic Drama. By performing their solo work on this stage, each artist is directly tapping into the foundational energy and legacy of the continuum.
