About this Event
Join us for an artist talk with Makyla Curtis, a printmaker, bookbinder and poet based in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.
In this talk, Makyla will explore printmaking processes inspired by the natural world. She will discuss a range of approaches including nature contact and ghost prints, botanical dyes and inks, and paper-making using plant matter, including food waste.
The talk will introduce the history and precedents of nature-based printmaking and highlight artists working with botanical materials and experimental processes. Makyla will also share insights into her own practice, which brings together printmaking, textiles and book arts.
Participants will gain practical insight into working with botanical specimens, making natural inks and dyes, and creating handmade paper, along with ideas for incorporating natural materials into contemporary printmaking practice.
