Join us Thursday, November 5 at 5:30 PM for a conversation with Lauren Boilini, our 2025-26 National Artist in Residence, as she talks with the Art Center about her time on the Laguna Madre.Through the Laguna Madre Artist Residency, a partnership between the Art Center of Corpus Christi and the Center for Coastal Studies at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, Lauren spent time alone in September 2025 at the Laguna Madre Field Station. The station is an off-grid research facility on an island in the Laguna, reachable only by boat. She lived and worked surrounded by one of the most unique ecosystems on the Texas coast, then spent time in our studio turning that experience into a new body of work.
About the Artist
Lauren Boilini was born and raised in Bloomington, Indiana. She earned her BFA in Painting and Art History from the Kansas City Art Institute and her MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art. She is a painter who also works in installation and public art.
She has been an artist-in-residence at the following places, among others:
MASS MoCA
Vermont Studio Center
Can Serrat in Spain
The Burren College in Ireland
SACI in Italy
Amazon
She has also completed research-based residencies at UVA’s Mountain Lake Biological Station and Texas A&M’s Laguna Madre Field Station, as well as a six-week fellowship this summer at Chulitna Lodge in Alaska’s remote bush. Lauren was a 2025 Neddy Finalist in Painting and has received a GAP grant and a McMillen Foundation fellowship. She teaches at The Evergreen State College and is represented by J. Rinehart Gallery in Seattle and Museo Gallery on Whidbey Island. She recently opened her first museum show at the San Juan Islands Museum of Art. Lauren is also a marathon open water swimmer and calls Seattle home.
About the Exhibition
Lauren’s paintings use animals as a cast of characters, each species reflecting part of human behavior, from our deepest longings to our most primal instincts. This exhibition brings together work from the past six years, including new work created in response to her time in Corpus Christi and on the Laguna Madre.
The talk takes place in the Kucera Gallery during the opening of Lauren’s solo exhibition, on view November 5 through December 31. The exhibition then travels to the Mary and Jeff Bell Library at TAMU-CC in January.
The Laguna Madre Artist Residency is made possible by the Robert J. Kleberg, Jr. and Helen C. Kleberg Foundation.
