About Aquí en Chicago
Chicago has been home to Latino/a/e communities since the 1800s. In 2019, students from Instituto Justice and Leadership Academy in Pilsen protested CHM for its lack of Latino/a/e representation. They stood on the shoulders of past Latino/a/es who fought against cultural erasure and systemic racism.
Through art, photographs, interviews, clothing, everyday objects, and more, Aquí en Chicago traces the lives of Latino/a/e communities that have stood firm in the face of oppression, maintaining a persistent cultural presence and flourishing in Chicago.
