About this Event
This is Class 2 in a 4 part sewing series!
In this introductory sewing course, you will learn how to use a sewing machine and make unique and fun projects along the way. These projects are very much gift-worthy so you can learn how to sew and make special things for you or someone else. You can sign up for all four or take the classes individually.
Class 2: Using a Sewing Pattern to Make the Allspice Apron
Prerequisite: Class 1 OR sewing straight lines and corners.
All materials provided.
Bring your machine if you have one, otherwise you can use ours. If you're bringing your machine please read the "Sewing Machine Guidelines." Please note that the instructor will help set up your machine in this class if you haven't taken Class 1 or do not yet know how to set it up, but there will be no extensive instruction on machine set up in this class.
In this class we'll go from pattern to finished product! We'll be making the Allspice Apron by Hey June Handmade.
Skills Learned:
-taking your chest measurement for a sewing pattern
-cutting a paper sewing pattern
-cutting fabric from your pattern pieces
-making and attaching a pocket, and pocket reinforcement
-using bias tape
-sewing curves
PLEASE NOTE though that only in Class 1 (The Quilted Journal Cover) will you learn extensively about the sewing machine and different functions. Classes 2, 3 and 4 will be mostly focused on sewing the projects for those classes. You are welcome to bring your own sewing machine to ALL classes even if you don't take Class 1 as this reduces waiting time for the limited number of machines we have. Just know that our instructor will set up all machines if necessary in Classes 2, 3, and 4 so that those classes remain focused on completing the projects.
ALL MATERIALS WILL BE PROVIDED FOR ALL CLASSES BUT PLEASE READ THE "SEWING MACHINE GUIDELINES" IF YOU'RE BRINGING A MACHINE.
SEWING MACHINE GUIDELINES
If you're bringing your sewing machine, please also bring:
1) PEDAL AND POWER CORD. Sometimes these are connected but sometimes they each have their own cord.
2) THE CORRECT BOBBIN UNIQUE TO YOUR MACHINE. You can check your user manual to verify the bobbin model number you need. The correct bobbin comes with any new machine but if your machine is second-hand be sure to verify you have the correct bobbin. If you don't have a user manual and cannot find one online then you can go to sewingpartsonline.com and search your model name and number and verify what bobbin is recommended. Or you can email our instructor at [email protected] if you're stuck.
3) THE STANDARD PRESSER FOOT. This is usually attached to the machine but just double check.
4) SPOOL PIN. This is usually on the machine but sometimes they break off.
If you get stuck on anything, please email our instructor at [email protected]
