The Apple Barn Flannel FestivalSunday, December 6 | 11 AM to 3 PM
A little Vermont grit, a whole lot of flannel, and some really good soup.
We love our foliage visitors, and we're grateful for the excitement they bring to Southern Vermont every fall. But when the leaves have fallen, the crowds have headed home, and we're all settling in for another long Vermont winter, it's the folks who live, work, and raise their families here who make this place what it is.
And we think that's worth celebrating.
So we're throwing a Flannel Festival!
Nothing fancy. Just a good old-fashioned Vermont gathering with homemade soups, stews, and chili, some live local music, a bonfire, hot chocolate, and a little friendly competition.
We're inviting local families, farms, restaurants, and businesses to bring their best pots of soup or chili for a community tasting, complete with some fun awards and, more importantly, bragging rights.
And then there's the flannel.
We're talking your favorite flannel, your oldest flannel, the one that's missing a button, has a mysterious stain, or has been keeping you warm since the Reagan administration. The one your spouse has been trying to throw away for the last decade. THAT flannel.
We'll have some ridiculous little competitions and prizes for the best of the bunch. Farmers, we'd especially love to see you show up looking like you just came from the barn. Muddy boots welcome. Bonus points if there's actual hay stuck to you.
But underneath all the flannel and foolishness, there's something pretty important to us.
This whole afternoon is about giving back to the community that makes this place what it is.
Proceeds from the festival will support our Apple Barn Educational Agriculture Initiative and the Rooted Hands Project. This year, we started creating opportunities for local kids and families to get their hands dirty, learn about agriculture, and connect with the land and farming traditions that are such an important part of where we live.
We've had an incredible first year, and we're hoping to grow those opportunities in 2027.
Admission is $10 per person, including soup and chili tasting, with proceeds supporting our agricultural education programs.
So dig out that flannel, bring your appetite, round up your neighbors, and come spend a few hours with us.
No big production. No fancy dress code. Just good food, good people, a little friendly nonsense, and some appreciation for the place we all call home.
