Hey Club Members! In the spirit of fun and thanksgiving the club will be hosting an "Anything But a Paddle" Thanksgiving Tournament!
This event completely levels the playing field. Elite spin and speed vanish when you are forced to play with a hardcover book or a plastic turkey platter. It’s going to be unpredictable, hilarious, and an absolute blast.
Nik will have a signup sheet at the club starting on October 22.
RULES
📦 Rule 1: The "Bat" Contribution
• Everyone must bring ONE everyday household object to contribute to the central "Bat Pool" at check-in. No contribution, no participation.
• Objects should roughly match the surface area of a standard paddle and be holdable in one hand.
• Examples: Hardcover cookbooks, plastic turkey platters, wooden cutting boards, clipboards, hard phone cases, tennis racquets, badminton racquets, or old shoes.
❌ Rule 2: Strictly Forbidden Items
• No Table Tennis Equipment: Absolutely no standard paddles, mini paddles, giant paddles, sandpaper bats, or bare blades.
• No Table Damagers: No heavy metal (like cast iron frying pans) or ceramic dishes. If it is likely to scratch, chip, or dent our tables, leave it home!
• No Dangerous Items: No sharp kitchen knives, power tools, glass bottles, or anything with jagged edges.
• No Body Parts: You cannot use your bare hand, open palm, or clothing sleeves to strike the ball.
🔄 Rule 3: The Thanksgiving Bat Draft
• Before matches begin, all contributed objects will be lined up on a display table.
• Players will draw a random number from a hat to determine their drafting order.
• You will select your starting weapon from the pool and must keep it for the entire Group Stage.
🏆 Match Format & Scoring
• Stage 1 (Group Play): You will be assigned to one of our 8 tournament tables and play a Round Robin against everyone at that table. Matches are best of 3 sets to 11 points (must win by 2).
• Stage 2 (The Brackets): The top finisher from each table advances to the Championship Bracket. The bottom finisher from each table enters the reverse "Wooden Spoon" Bracket. Matches are best of 3 sets to 11 points, except for the final match, which is best of 5 sets to 11.
• The Weapon Steal: In the bracket stage, if you win a match, you have the right to steal your defeated opponent’s weapon or keep your own for the next round!
* For clarity - the winner of the championship bracket is in first place, the runner up finishes second, and the winner of the wooden spoon bracket finishes "last."
🎁 THE REWARDS & GLORY
No entry fees required! We will have fun prizes awarded for First Place, Second Place, and Last Place, as well as a special prize for the Most Ridiculous Bat Contribution (voted on by the club before the draft starts).
