BAND MERCHANDISE & NEW ORLEANS COCKTAILS AVAILABLE!
WHAT TO EXPECT - TWO ALBUMS. ONE BLUES JOURNEY.
Join Anthea “Jewels” & Blues Bazaar for an evening of live music, stories, and the launch of their single, Cursin’ Blues, with its own animated music video created by Bill Ruffle. ... and no, no AI was harmed in making this video, because there was none!).
The evening opens with originals from Catch the Blues Train – From Naarm to New Orleans, bringing Jewels and Bill’s stories to life with deep grooves and Blues Bazaar’s infectious live energy.
Enjoy a special screening of Cursin’ Blues followed by the Odeon Richmond's signature 'In Conversation' session led by Werner Martin, 3CR broadcaster and blues music historian. Werner speaks with video creator and co-songwriter Bill Ruffle and singer and co-songwriter Anthea Jewels who will share the stories behind the music and the (no AI) animated Cursin’ Blues video.
Both albums are dedicated to Tony Bishop - producer, recording engineer and mentor.
A second live set celebrates their renditions of the blues album Blues Soul & Rock ’n’ Roll, featuring the band’s spirited interpretations of the classics that inspired Jewels to sing the blues.
Meet the artists, get your albums signed, and browse the merchandise—an evening celebrating the blues that inspired her and the blues she's lived!
CELEBRATING TONY BISHOP AND THE MUSICIANS WHO MADE THE JOURNEY POSSIBLE
This launch will also honour and celebrate retired producer and engineer Tony Bishop of Bishop Sound, whose generosity, integrity, musicianship and technical expertise have been instrumental in bringing these two recordings to life.
Tony’s professional relationship with Anthea Jewels spans decades — from her original Pearl: The Janis Joplin Show in the 1990s, through its revival in 2012, and now to these two new album recordings. Throughout that journey, Tony has played an important and enduring role in Anthea Jewel’s musical career, as he has for so many artists across Melbourne’s music community.
A singer and musician himself, Tony brings an organic, intuitive approach to recording, with a rare ability to create an environment where artists feel supported, relaxed, and able to give their best. His contribution to these albums extends well beyond the studio — he has been a trusted musical colleague and an important part of Anthea’s journey for many years. "We called him ‘the fifth Beatle — like Brian Epstein"
These recordings wouldn't have happened without Tony’s generosity of time, patience, professionalism, and expertise. We celebrate him tonight and always.
Blues Bazaar is ready to bring the energy of these recordings to audiences LIVE!
