Some sporting stories deserve to be celebrated in the place where they began.
On Thursday, October 22nd, The Sporting Club Ireland is coming to the National Yacht Club for what promises to be a very special evening with one of Ireland’s most admired Olympians, Annalise Murphy.
A three-time Olympian, European Champion and, most memorably, Olympic silver medallist at Rio 2016, Annalise produced one of the great Irish Olympic performances when she stood on the podium in Rio, four years after the heartbreak of finishing fourth in London.
That silver medal was the culmination of years of extraordinary commitment, resilience and belief, and cemented her place among Ireland’s finest sporting figures.
And there could hardly be a more fitting setting for the evening.
Annalise has represented the National Yacht Club throughout her career, so on October 22nd we’ll welcome her back to her home club to look back on the journey: the early days on the water, London 2012, becoming European Champion, the unforgettable road to Rio, life as an Olympian, the highs, the setbacks, the sacrifices and the stories behind the moments the rest of us only got to watch from afar.
This won’t simply be an interview.
It will be a celebration of an extraordinary Irish sporting career, in an intimate setting, surrounded by great people, great food and the unique atmosphere of the National Yacht Club.
