About this Event
Bar 7 pm / music 8 pm
This is a unique evening dedicated to the music of Billie Holiday, as interpreted by Anna Sroka-Hryń - an actress and vocalist who excels at performing the repertoire of one of the greatest legends in the history of jazz. Her stage sensitivity, extraordinary expressiveness, and ability to seamlessly blend acting with music imbue these timeless songs with a deeply personal and emotional dimension.
A key element of this project is the Polish translation of Billie Holiday’s songs by Wiesława Sujkowska, which allows familiar tracks to be heard in a fresh form that resonates closely with a Polish-speaking audience. While preserving the original emotional power and character of the music, these translations open a space for stories about love, loneliness, freedom, longing, and fragility - the very human experiences that have made Billie Holiday’s work truly timeless.
Line up:
Anna Sroka-Hryń – vocal
Stanisław Pańta – piano
Paweł Pańta – double bass
Sroka-Hryń previously showcased this repertoire in the production ‘Billie Holiday at Emerson’s Bar & Grill’, delivering a poignant and compelling artistic performance.
For this London concert, this remarkable musical narrative will be presented in a new light. Anna Sroka-Hryń will be accompanied by the talented young pianist Stanisław Pańta and the accomplished double bassist Paweł Pańta.
The program will feature, among others, "When a Woman Loves a Man," "Pig Foot," "I Wonder Where Our Love Has Gone," "Baby Doll," "Crazy He Calls Me," "Lady Sings the Blues," and "God Bless the Child"- songs that have left an indelible mark on the history of jazz.
