I left Cuba on February 28, 1962, as part of Operation Pedro Pan, a program sponsored by the Catholic Church, and landed in Miami not knowing a word of English. My memoir, Pedro Pan Learning to Dance: The Long Journey to Becoming America is a series of episodes of what it was like to adjust to a new country, language and an after school job as a busboy in a restaurant. I will reminisce about my Pedro Pan days and what followed as I became a certified American and lived the American dream. Today I am a dad of 4, grandfather of 11, a university professor, author and consultant. Let me tell you about the first time I tasted rootbeer, or my first high school pep rally........
