Ancient Wisdom for Modern Living | Yoga Body Elements Creating a bridge between ancestral knowledge and our lives today. We explore the Four Directions and an elemental medicine wheel, introduce the Tonalpohualli in an accessible way, and explore traditional Mexican foods and plants as part of a larger relationship with nourishment, land, and community.
We will incorporate examples such as amaranto, nopal, and epazote, along with simple movement inspired by Mexican danza.
The intention is not simply to teach information, but to give participants an opportunity to experience how ancestral ways of understanding can still offer reflection, connection, and grounding in modern life.
Meet guest lead Ketzal Cihuatl Diana
A spiritual woman, Mexican dancer, and student and practitioner of Traditional Mexican Medicine. Her path has been shaped by a lifelong connection to ancestral knowledge, ceremony,
healing, song, and the responsibility of learning from those who came before her.
Diana began her journey as a Mexican dancer at the age of 23. Over the years, she has had the privilege of
learning from teachers, elders, and practitioners who have contributed to her understanding of the Mexican
way of life. Among those who have influenced her path are Cuauhtémoc “Temok” Mosqueda García,
Estrella Newman, Guillermo Jaimes González Soto, Claudia Bravo, Alfonso in Michigan, Susana,
and Ambrosio.
She has also had the honor of participating in ceremony with Abuelo Tlacaélel of Teotihuacan and
Mary Brave Bird, a Lakota woman and respected spiritual leader. Her relationship with song has
been another important part of her journey, including learning traditional songs with Uncle Ramón Cruz
from Pilsen, connecting her ancestral learning with the community that helped shape her in Chicago.
Diana is a Sacred Fire Keeper under the word and guidance of Cuauhtémoc “Temok” Mosqueda
García. Through danza, ceremony, sacred fire, song, and her relationship with the natural world, she
continues to deepen her spiritual path and her understanding of ancestral ways of life.
Her connection to healing also reaches into her family history.
More recently, Diana has been deepening her studies in Traditional Mexican Medicine in Cuernavaca
and Tepoztlán, Morelos, learning from practitioners who continue to preserve and practice these living
traditions. Her studies and experience include traditional bodywork, manteadas, massage, cupping,
herbal medicine and tinctures, and other traditional approaches to wellness.
