“The dancing conductor” was a fitting description bestowed on R. Excelicia Cunville by the late LeelaNaidu (actress/musician), She had been invited to conduct the Halcyon Chorus for a Christmas programme
after which she co-founded the Madrigale Internationale (Bombay): a choir which featured singers from all
over India as well as Thailand, the African continent, and the United States of America. And went on to
found and conduct a choir at Christ Church, Amsterdam.
As she led the MI from one concert to another, she composed her own songs and music, which were
appreciated by both the choir and audiences. She also composed songs for a London-based teleplay,
segments of which have been show-cased live.
As a singer, she has sung solo in different places, highlights being well-received concerts in different
venues of Delhi, performing with the Cochin Chamber Orchestra in Kerala, and solo concerts in Paris and
Berlin, as well as in London.
At the piano, she has thrilled audiences in different settings including accompanying soloists and groups,
as well as playing for operettas.
Incidentally, she was also a member of the Anglo-American Theatre Group of The Hague (the
Netherlands), was chosen as one of the winners of an international poetry-writing competition, an
international competition in performing - acting (dramatic recitation) and singing (won in both soul/pop and
classical singing). She also writes and is now working on her second book. She presently has an open
invitation to take a choir of her choice to perform at the Canterbury Cathedral, England, at one of their
lunchtime concerts. Besides, she is a certified teacher of English as a foreign language and holds an MA in
literature.
