Paul Steward has spent more than two decades playing the blues across Northern California, most of it fronting Twice As Good, the father and son duo he started with his dad Richard in 2003. In 2010 the two became the first California Native artists to win the Blues Award at the Native American Music Awards. Steward is Southeastern Pomo, from the Elem Indian Colony, and today he calls Santa Rosa home.
His solo debut, World Champion, runs blues, rock and R&B through his Native roots, and its song Myanik Xe (Beautiful Music) is sung in the Southeastern Pomo language. He has backed Bay Area soul man Freddie Hughes, and he teaches American Indian Studies at San Francisco State. Tonight is an easy one: come in any time before 8:45 and stay for music all evening long.
