An Artist's Journey with Sarod is a presentation by sarod artist and music scholar Shounak Roy, offering audiences an opportunity to explore the making of a classical musician through his personal journey of learning, training and performance.
Shounak joined the ITC Sangeet Research Academy in 2016 as a General Class Student under the guidance of Pandit Buddhadev Das Gupta. He is presently a scholar at the Academy under his guru, Shri Abir Hossain.
Alongside his musical training, Shounak is pursuing architecture at Jadavpur University. His achievements include receiving The Telegraph School Awards for Excellence in 2023, performing at the ITC Sangeet Sammelan, Kolkata, in 2022, and being a recipient of the M. S. Subbulakshmi Fellowship in Music for 2021.
Through this presentation, Shounak will share experiences from his musical journey and reflect on the traditions, practices and discipline involved in learning the sarod and Hindustani classical music.
The session is intended for anyone interested in Indian classical music, the sarod, the guru-shishya tradition, or the lived experience of a young musician navigating both artistic and academic pursuits.
