Something musical is in the air this Halloween, as the Institute for Advanced Study celebrates the season with a nod to one of its most famous Professors! On October 17, 1933, Albert Einstein arrived in Princeton, NJ, to begin his work at the Institute. Just two weeks after settling in, he had his first encounter with American Halloween traditions. As the story goes, when trick-or-treaters rang his doorbell, Einstein, who had never heard of the custom, stepped out onto his porch with his violin and played them a tune instead of handing out candy.
IAS is bringing that moment back to life this year with a performance by The Renaissance String Quartet, who will play for trick-or-treaters passing by Einstein's former residence: 112 Mercer Street. All are welcome to stroll over and enjoy the music!
