AN ADVENT WORKSHOP
Preparing Our Hearts for the Unexpected Gift of Hope
Anchoring Scripture: Matthew 20:20–28
Expectations are the pictures we form in our minds of how things ought to be.
As we enter the holiday season, we carry expectations about what Christmas should look like or feel like, how our families should behave, and even what this past year should have produced.
We imagine how things will unfold, what God will do, and how our prayers will be answered. But what happens when life doesn't look the way we expected? When our requests go unanswered, our plans are interrupted, or God's response looks different than we imagined?
Beneath many of our expectations is a question we may be afraid to ask:
What happens to my heart when God doesn't meet my expectations?
This Advent, join us for a reflective, Scripture-centered workshop as we explore Matthew 20:20–28 and prepare our hearts for the unexpected gift of hope found in Jesus.
Together, we'll explore:
What our requests reveal about our hearts — What are we really longing for, and what do our desires reveal about what matters most to us?
What our expectations reveal about our understanding — How might our ideas of what God should do shape the way we see Him and His plans?
What our waiting reveals about what we need to surrender — Where is God inviting us to release control, let go of our assumptions, and trust Him in the unexpected?
Through Scripture, reflection, and intentional conversation, we'll make space to examine our expectations, realign our hearts, and rediscover the hope Jesus offers.
Because the hope of Advent isn't found in everything going according to plan. It's found in Jesus — who came not to meet our expectations, but to give us something far greater than we could have imagined.
Join us as Hannah Kroger, a local author and owner of Three Seeds Co. leads us through this Biblical workshop and invites us to prepare our hearts for the hope of Christ this Advent season.
