Ambient Dance: Contact Workshop

What if dance was a process of listening, sharing and being attentive?
This workshop offers dedicated time and practice to open space. Space for your mind to non-judgmentally observe movement in yourself and in dialogue with someone else. Space for your body to regulate, open and find a tranquil vitality.
Led by dance artist Billy Maxwell Taylor, the session draws on contact improvisation, contemporary dance and movement meditation. Together, we'll explore how to strengthen our individual dance whilst developing greater sensitivity, clarity and communication when dancing with another.T
he approach emphasises deep listening and spaciousness. It is rooted in the dynamic yet grounded quality of ambient dance. This is a practice developed by Billy that enlivens awareness, allowing us to notice the small dances of everyday life: coffee dripping, city lights, trees rustling.
This workshop cover:
- nervous system regulation and physical opening of body through guided mobility and touch
- the use of breath in finding flow in and out of the floor through specific patterns and improvisation
- the art of listening to yourself, each other and the space within contact.
