About this Event
Altar of Flavors
Fri, Oct 16 | 6p–8:30p | La Cocina on Hyde, 332 Golden Gate Ave.
You're invited to join us for a communal three-course meal and memorial altar-building in honor of loved ones we've lost, yet their recipes and the memory of their food live on.
Four La Cocina-born businesses will be serving a lovingly prepared three-course meal spanning Mexico, Indonesia, and Puerto Rico.
Our beautiful altar will be filled with meaningful objects of remembrance. We invite you to bring photos of loved ones who have passed, or recipes that carry meaning for your family.
At the end of the evening, we’ll collect everyone’s recipes and send you an electronic cookbook to commemorate our special evening together.
Please don’t wait to purchase your tickets. Our last pop-up dinner event sold out within 24 hours.
Tickets are non-refundable. Thank you for your understanding.
The menu:
Los Cilantros: Pan de Muerto, the sweet bread baked across Mexico each fall for Día de los Muertos

The Chefs:
Dilsa Lugo is a graduate and former board member of La Cocina. She worked in iconic Bay Area restaurants like Chez Panisse, Copita, and A16 before opening her own Berkeley restaurant, Los Cilantros, in 2014. She specializes in unique and authentic dishes that she grew up eating in Mexico. She also caters and sells her famous handmade tortillas and masa at the South Berkeley Farmers Market.
Feby Boediarto and Melati Citrawireja are the co-owners of Reculture Foods, a La Cocina-incubated tempeh company. Feby began fermenting her own tempeh in 2019, and launched Reculture to reclaim tempeh's Indonesian roots. Feby and Melati make their unpasteurized tempeh in small batches, preserving the deep flavor that mass-market versions often lose. You can now find their packaged tempeh in eight Bay Area stores.
Ofelia Barajas and Reyna Maldonado, a mother-daughter team, are 2019 graduates of La Cocina's incubator program. After 15 years of selling tamales on the streets of San Francisco's Mission District, they formalized their business and opened Las Guerreras in Swan's Market in Oakland, a kitchen and cevicheria specializing in the tamales, pozole, and barbacoa of Guerrero, Mexico, all made from traditional family recipes.
Ansarys Andino trained as a pastry chef at Town in New York City, and went on to work in The Water Club, Babycakes NYC, La Fonda del Sol, and Crave Fishbar. She built a decade of experience from cake decorator to head baker to pastry chef. After joining La Cocina in 2025, she started Chi Chi's Kiosko, bringing the flavors of Puerto Rican breakfast traditions and New York bodega culture to the Bay Area. Ansarys also regularly teaches culinary classes at Kitchen on Fire.
