About this Event
Allowed to Birth: The Journey of a Global Midwife
A special benefit screening supporting the future of midwifery in California.
Join Californians for the Advancement of Midwifery (CAM) on Wednesday, December 2, at BATS Bayfront Theatre in San Francisco for a screening of Allowed to Birth: The Journey of a Global Midwife, followed by a live conversation and audience Q&A.
Directed by Jacinta Lagos, the documentary follows midwife and educator Kristine Lauria, exploring birth, the importance of physiological care, and the role of midwives in supporting informed choices and respectful maternity care.
The film invites us to consider what becomes possible when we approach birth with greater trust, understanding, and respect for the people giving birth.
Why we're gathering
For nearly four decades, CAM has worked to advance midwifery across California.
This benefit screening is an opportunity to bring new voices into the conversation, strengthen community connections, and support the work ahead.
You don't need to be a midwife or birth professional to join us. Whether you're a parent, healthcare professional, student, advocate, or simply curious about the future of birth, you're welcome.
Ticket proceeds after event expenses support CAM's work to advance community midwifery across California.
