In Malign Junction (Goodbye, Berlin) grijpt de Pools-Britse choreograaf Alex Baczyński-Jenkins terug naar de periode die Isherwood beschreef in de roman Goodbye Berlin. Baczyński-Jenkins was eerder in DE SINGEL te gast met Untitled (Holding Horizon) en Unending love, or love dies, on repeat like it’s endless.
Helikoptergeluiden en een onbestemde ruis simuleren een jachtige onrust. Is er reden tot nervositeit? Zijn we opnieuw op een beslissend kruispunt beland? Een repetitieve, bezwerende soundscape suggereert dat we rondjes rennen door de geschiedenis. Met Malign Junction (Goodbye, Berlin) creëert Baczyński-Jenkins een aangrijpende choreografie die slingert tussen stilstand, verlies en de gebroken belofte van vooruitgang. Alsof hij ons eraan herinnert dat vrijheden nooit definitief verworven zijn.

In Malign Junction (Goodbye, Berlin), Polish-British choreographer Alex Baczyński-Jenkins revisits the era Isherwood described in the novel Goodbye Berlin. Baczyński-Jenkins previously appeared at DE SINGEL with Untitled (Holding Horizon) and Unending love, or love dies, on repeat like it’s endless.
Helicopter sounds and an indistinct hum simulate a restless unease. Is there cause for nervousness? Have we once again arrived at a decisive crossroads? A repetitive, hypnotic soundscape suggests that we are running in circles through history. With Malign Junction (Goodbye, Berlin), Baczyński-Jenkins crafts a poignant choreography that oscillates between stasis, loss, and the fractured promise of progress. As if reminding us that freedoms are never permanently secured.
